Learning holidays at Moulin Scalagrand

  • Villeréal, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, 47210 France (map)

Every second week of the month, for five days, your host, Frederique, opens her permaculture project to anyone who wants to connect with nature and experience an alternative way of life. Alongside enjoying the mill’s serene surroundings, relaxing in the garden, swimming in the natural pond, meditating, and grounding yourself, you’re warmly invited to join in the activities that keep this place thriving.

From Monday to Friday, Frederique will be available all day to guide you and answer your questions on a range of topics: from permaculture and circular farming to garden mandalas, watering, composting, mulching, harvesting, seeding, pruning, and natural fertilizers. Whether you’re curious about beneficial bacteria and fungi or have practical questions, Frederique will be there to help. Frederique wants to take this opportunity to share her permaculture paradise with you and hopes to inspire you to live more freely and self-sufficiently in your own way.

This is a unique opportunity to learn by doing and to fully immerse yourself in the permaculture way of life.

What the day might look like:

Each morning after breakfast there will be time for a workshop, which can be scheduled the evening before depending on the interest of the group. We hope and encourage you to come with friends and family so that we can also build a sense of connection and community with each other. Every afternoon you can join Frederique in harvesting and preparing a delicious dinner for the whole group, experience and be inspired in the kitchen. In the evenings we can enjoy conversations around the campfire.

Workshops include:

  • Vegan cheese and yogurt making

  • Fermenting vegetables and making sourdough bread

  • Wild foraging and harvesting in the food forest

  • Soap, shampoo and cream making

  • Essential oil and oil infusion making

Periods in 2025: March 24-28 / April 7-10 / May 5-9 / June 9-13 / September 8-12 / October 6-10

Prices: 450€ per person for five days (arrival on monday evening and departure on Friday)

The price includes breakfast and dinner, prepared with your host, while lunch is yours to make with fresh produce from the garden and items available in the shared kitchen. Three of the workshops listed above are also included in the price.

Good to know: This learning holiday is designed to give you the opportunity to participate in our daily life at the mill, so it is not a traditional holiday experience. On arrival you will be given fresh linen to make your bed and you will be expected to help prepare and clear up the kitchen before and after meals. There will also be free time to rest and spend time by yourself and with your loved ones, but also time to learn a new skill and contribute to the collective experience.
